The Sinharaja Base Camp and Natalie Ratnavira Education and Research Center

Another invaluable asset owned by the Wildlife Conservation Society – Galle is ‘The Sinharaja Base Camp and Natalie Ratnavira Education and Research Center,’ dedicated to facilitating environmental enthusiasts.

This facility has been established through the collaborative efforts of WCSG, the Natalie Ratnavira Donation Fund, and Nations Trust Bank PLC, on private property owned by WCSG. Situated in Wathugala village, in close proximity to the Sinharaja World Heritage Site, it is bordered by the Southern Border. The well-known ‘Pitadeniya Entrance’ to Sinharaja World Heritage Site is a mere 100 meters away, just a two-minute walk from the center. The facility includes accommodation for 12 people with bathrooms and a functioning kitchen. 

The primary aim of establishing this facility is to provide accommodation and logistical support for conservationists, nature photographers, researchers, university students, and the general public interested in Sri Lankan wildlife and natural heritage. The revenue generated from this facility will be directly channeled into the conservation projects conducted by the Society, focusing on and around the Sinharaja World Heritage Site.

The next-most achievement of the Wildlife Conservation Society – Galle, ‘The Sinharaja Base Camp and Natalie Ratnavira Education and Research Center’ is now available to facilitate Environmental Enthusiasts.

This facility is established in a private property, owned by the WCSG, in the Wathugala village, at the vicinity of Sinharaja World Heritage Site. The facility is bordered to the Southern Border of Sinharaja WHS and the well-known Pitadeniya Entrance is at a distance of 100 meters, a two minutes walking distance.   

The objective of establishing this facility is to provide accommodation and logistical facilities for Conservationists, Nature Photographers, Researchers, University Students and General Public, who are interested in Sri Lankan Wildlife and Natural Heritage. 

The facility includes accommodation for 12 people with three modern bathrooms and a functioning kitchen with an in-house cook. Each dormitory consists an individual lockable storage and an electricity power out for each bed. 

 

From one side of the facility, the Gin River flows slowly and smoothly and the guests are free to have a river bath at their convenience. 

The facility has been established by WCSG with the collaboration of Natalie Ratnavira Donation Fund and Nations Trust Bank PLC. The revenue earned through this facility will be directly contributed for the conservation projects conducted by the Society, in and around Sinharaja WHS.

The facility is open for booking from 10th of August, 2019. A special discount will be given for University Students who are conducting field researches in Sinharaja WHS, the Members of the WNPS, FOGSL, Sri Lanka Birds Club, YZA, YBA, BCSSL, Rainforest Protectors and environmental organizations who are working towards the conservation of Sri Lankan Wildlife.
